January 11 - Day of Fasting

At True Life Church, we care about one another. We are family and we seek to serve, care and build one another up in love.

By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”  John 13:35

On January 11, we want to ask God to make us a community that submits to Him and loves one another. Let’s pray for protection, for unity, for growth, for spiritual health. Pray that he would continue to work in and through us to make us the people He would have us to be.

Let’s praise God for all He has done for us.

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Fasting is essentially giving up food (or something else) for a period of time in order to focus your thoughts on God. While fasting, you can spend the time reading the Bible, praying, or worshiping God.

Fasting it brings us closer to Him and changes our hearts. When we fast, we take time away from a meal or an activity and devote our energy to prayerfully seek God’s face. Fasting is not a way for us to impress God or manipulate him.

As you give up food, computer time, TV, or maybe sports be sure to devote that time to prayer.

How to Pray

Prayer is about aligning our hearts with God’s. It is a conversation between us and God – a relationship where we can pour out our heart to God.

Prayer is:

  • Talking with God
  • Listening to God
  • Asking and receiving

True prayer exalts God
Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted int he earth!”

Matthew 6:9-13
Pray then like this:
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done,  on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
