PRAYER AND FASTING

What does it mean to have a  personal day of prayer and fasting?

Fasting is one way that we as individiuals can actively humble ourselves and devote our time seeking the face of God prayerfully and in submission.
If you are unable to fast from food, what is it you can give up and use that time to seek God in prayer.

Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.

Spend time in the Word of God and seeking God’s help and direction in the days ahead.

We have no idea what tomorrow will bring, but God does and let’s trust Him to see us through. What can we be praying about?

  • Pray that people will return to God.
  • Pray for our Government –  making important decisions
  • Pray for families
  • Pray for the world
  • Pray for our missionaries who serve not just locally but around the world.

When we are faced with uncertainty, our trust is in the Lord. Exercise caution but do not fear. I encourage you to focus upon Him. Encourage yourself in the Lord through worship, prayer and Scripture. Pray for and encourage one another.

do not be anxious about anything,  but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6

How to Pray

Prayer is about aligning our hearts with God’s. It is a conversation between us and God – a relationship where we can pour out our heart to God.

Prayer is:

  • Talking with God
  • Listening to God
  • Asking and receiving

True prayer exalts God
Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted int he earth!”

Matthew 6:9-13
Pray then like this:
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done,  on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Confession – I agree with God about my sin. Ask God to forgive me and also that we forgive others.

Deliverance – Deliverance from temptation, protection and safety.

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
