Making an impact for eternity

Giving at True Life

Ways to Give

Why we Give

Faithfully giving to the church is a biblical way that we as believers can participate in the work of Jesus, bless others and most of all make an impact for eternity.

For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints—  and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.  2 Corinthians 8:3-5

At True Life Church, we don’t give to get.  We give because God has called us to be generous givers to make an impact for the Kingdom of God.

Everything we have belongs to God and when we give, we are giving to God, not just a church.

As believers, it is critical that we understand what the Bible says about giving (tithing). The purpose of giving (tithing)—giving our first fruits for God’s work on earth—is to teach us to put God first in our lives.

Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. Malachi 3:10

Biblical Principles in Giving

1. First-place: God gets the best and first “fruits” of my labor
Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce;  Proverbs 3:9

2. Consistent: Regular, steady giving strengthens my heart, budget, and church
On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.
1 Corinthians 16:2

3. Church-based: My stewardship should begin and be based at my home church, where I serve my family and community
1 Cor.16:2, Malachi 3:10

4.  Joyful: The main motivation of giving is the joyful love I have for God
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7
Then the people rejoiced because they had given willingly, for with a whole heart they had offered freely to the Lord. David the king also rejoiced greatly. 2 Chronicles 29:9

5.  Grace-filled: I have freedom and responsibility in Christ to move to generosity in my giving
2 Corinthians 8:7b-8, 9:7a, Proverbs 11:25

6.  Proportionate: Giving a percentage of my income is a great way for me to evaluate and grow my stewardship
Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God that he has given you. Deuteronomy 16:17
Deuteronomy 26:12; 1 Corinthians 16:2

7.  Sacrificial: At times in my life God will peak my growth and build my faith by prompting me to give beyond my ability to a special need

For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints 2 Corinthians 8:3-4
