2025 Book Study on John
While you read through John each day, Journal, Highlight, Explain, Apply, and Respond. Use your John Journal book to take note of your bible reading each day. (books are $15 each – See Stacy Fidler) 1. Highlight – Highlight any verses or parts of verses that speaks to you. 2. Explain- Write out what the text means. Ask yourself some of the following questions. (these questions will help you be engaged in the text) a. Why was this text written? b. To whom was it originally written? c. How does this text fit with the verses before and after it? d. Why did the Holy Spirit include this passage in the book? e. What does the Holy Spirit intend to communicate through this text?
3. Apply- This part is key to growth. Ask yourself these questions. a. What does this text teach me about God? b. What does this passage mean today? c. What would the application of this passage look like in my life? d. Does the text identify an action or attitude to avoid or embrace? e. What is God saying to me?
4. Respond- What is this passage asking of you? You may be told to take action by doing something, to be reassured that you are doing something right, or multiple different things but how will you respond to the text you read?
