The believer’s public proclamation of their conversion and commitment to follow Christ
Baptism by Immersion
Believer’s baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
It is an act of obedience publicly proclaiming your faith in Jesus Christ.
It symbolizes the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Saviour and the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus.
Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newnessof life. Romans 6:4 (CSB)
What is the importance of Believer's Baptism
It is one of two ordinances that Jesus instituted for the church just before His ascension.
The word for baptize in Greek is baptizo, which means “to dip, plunge, submerge, or immerse.”
Baptism was commanded by Jesus Matthew 28:18-20 says Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciplesofall nations, baptizingthem in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember,I am with you always,to the end of the age.”
Jesus set the example by being baptized at the start of His ministry.
Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him. But John tried to stop him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and yet you come to me?” Jesus answered him, “Allow it for now, because this is the way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John allowed him to be baptized. When Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water. The heavens suddenly opened for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming down on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased.” Matthew 3:13-17 (CSB)
Baptism is not a condition for salvation but an evidence of salvation. Believer’s Baptism is not a requirement for salvation. Jesus told the thief on the cross, “Today you’ll be with me in glory”.
Romans 10:9-10 If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation. Baptism is important for someone who has already been saved because it is the first step in their obedience and demonstrates the seriousness of their faith in Jesus Christ. ….Many of the Corinthians, when they heard, believed and were baptized. Acts 18:8 (CSB)
